The "Money Pit" Motorhome
WE BUILD AMERICAN PERFORMANCE
This is a project you don't see everyday. C & D Performance was asked for assistance in dressing out and installing a new motor in a 30' Revcon motorhome. Garret the owner, had to buy a new long block because his engine exploded (broke the #5 intake valve) on the way home after purchase. He has affectionately named this beast the "Money Pit". You can only guess as to WHY?
The new engine is a "high perf pass" core with oval port heads. The engine was rebuilt (.030" overbore) to stock specs but with an RV grind camshaft. We installed a new Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, carb and air cleaner assembly and a new custom ignition system consisting of a HP HEI ignition and Accell sprial core performance wires. This new engine was very peppy and exhibited better throttle response after the break in. A total Edelbrock power package would be a good choice for this combination.
Prior to removal of the engine the grill and bumper must be removed. the entire front of the vehicle needs to be lifted approximatley 40" above the ground to gain access and remove the assembly. The service manual that comes with each Revcon motorhome details exactly what the removal process entails. It takes a 15,000 lb fork lift to remove and install the front sub-assembly that contains the 454 Big Block Chevy, Turbo 475 transmission, transfer case, front drive axle, suspension, and cooling components. This is what powers this over grown beast of 13,000 lbs.
