Roberts Truck

Project '63 C10

Robert is ready to push the redline!

Roberts Truck Project, The 1963 C-10 Chevy

      WE BUILD AMERICAN PERFORMANCE

These are pictures of the C & D  Performance Father and Son project to build Roberts Truck!

This truck was acquired by trading out some work with a friend I attend church with.  I worked on a car for him (installed an engine) and he gave me the truck.  What a deal!  I asked my son Robert if he wanted the truck and of course he said "Yes"!  The truck sat around for two years before we could work on it.

The truck is a 1963 C-10 Chevy short-wide that has a 283 small block and a 3-speed on the column.  The original engine was rusted tight from sitting out in the elements.  The new motor is warmed over to about 290 HP and the entire mechanical portion of the truck has been rebuilt.  The family performed a budget frame on restoration on this truck.  The truck was totally dismantled except for pulling the cab off of the frame.  This was a great bonding experiance for our family.  I highly recommend that every father and son try this.

This project was 4 years in the making.  December '04 marks the completion of this project.  Robert is happy and loves his truck.  Sometime in the future the little C10 will get new paint, interior pieces and another CDP engine, but for now it will just be a fun driver.  Robert is currently in College to be a mechanical engineer.

The Dirty Work, tear down, scrubbing the frame and building the under carriage!  Roberts favorite tool during this stage was the electric drill with a wire wheel attachment.  Summer '02!  He liked MTV better than the hot Texas sun.

The 283 Small Block Chevy: Crane 272H cam, Cloyes double roller chain, Melling oil kit, power pack heads, ARP fasteners, Edelbrock 600 cfm carb, HEI ignition, Moroso Chrome parts and block hugger headers!  The engine was configured during Spring break '02!

Installing the 283, summer of '03.  Man it was hot that summer, we had to work mornings when it was cool.

Looks Good!  Very Clean!  At this point, hope was on the horizon.  Just looking at the sparkling chrome made you want to hurry up and drive this thing.

After the Trip to Bartosh's Muffler:  2 1/2" duals with Turbo mufflers.  Robert got to drive his truck for the first time, on the end of a tow rope!  Felix did a great job on the exhaust.

Building the Bed during Spring Break '04: Phillip, Robert and Chris.  Dan and Dave helped out too!  There were 100's of bolts to put in.  Phillip and Robert in the pic.

Looks like a truck again, what an ugly grill.  Not driveable at this point, just a roller.

This picture was taken after a test drive to see if the clutch linkage and brakes were adjusted correctly.  The truck exhibited a very smooth ride with the new wheels and tires.

The engine compartment after completion.  We had a few challenges getting this truck to be road worthy but things are running smoothly now.  The fuel delivery system drove us NUTS!  We replaced everything from the fuel tank to the carb with all new parts.

And here it is, ready for the road!  Dec '04!
