The C & D Performance Chevelle at Wichita Raceway Park (Spring Break '04)
Our Chevelle was driven to and run at the strip finally after the new engine installation was completed in October 2003.  The charging system was dead (even after three alternators and three voltage regulators) but we ran the car anyway as we had been planning this outing for quite some time.  We used jumper cables between rounds to keep the battery charged.  We didn't have time to test with good sticky tires and ran the Chevelle with street radials.

I was hoping to get in the 7's but fell short of my personal goal.  I ran mid 8's (8.49 best) spinning the tires the entire 1/8th mile.  The first pass was a little scary as the tail end of the car fish-tailed the entire length of the track (what a rush!)  On that first pass I kept eyeing the guard rail but I just couldn't lift the throttle.

The current motor makes way more torque than the previous small block that was in the car.  More tuning is on hand to reach the goal.  We will be working on the motor and suspension to get it just right.  A few new parts such as sticky tires, a new intake manifold and a new one wire alternator combined with the additional tuning should get us to our goal.
COOL!

The Hot Rod Power Tour, June 2004.  The C & D Performance Chevelle at Gateway International Raceway Park
The wife and I completed 1000 miles of Power Tour action in 2004 before taking the Chevelle down the 1320.  The Chevelle ran a 12.9 @t 109 (corrected to 12.7 @ 111) in Power Tour trim.  The engine was cutting out on the top end, I am guessing from fuel stavation.  I was still pleased with the performance being so far from home.  We had a blast.  Great memories for sure!

The C & D Performance Chevelle at Wichita Raceway Park (May '05)
Over the winter we did a little more work on the Chevelle.  I installed a better intake and a custom curved HEI distributor.  We went to track and ran 8.2's spinning the tires hard again.  This is alot of run with a very streetable car.  A true street car, not a race car with plates.   Jammin'!

The C & D Performance Chevelle at Wichita Raceway Park (June '05)
All my friends and my wife through me a HUGE surprise birthday party.  They pitched in and bought a set of Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials for the Chevelle.  My partner Dan donated his Weld Pro Stars that came on his CDP Nova and combined them with the new tires.  I mounted up the wheels and tires and installed the new fiberglass cowl induction hood that I had bought this past winter.  We went racing with the Chevelle again.  This time the Chevelle ran 7.8's @ 90.   At the 7.5 mark the Chevelle will need a roll cage to be legal.  ROCK ON!

The C & D Performance Chevelle at Wichita Raceway Park (Apr '06)
Over the winter we did a little more work on the Chevelle.  I installed a bigger exhaust system, a Torque Tech 3" mandrel bent custom system with an X-pipe and Flowmaster Super-40's.  The new sound is incredible.  This time out netted a 7.7 pass @ 91 MPH.  The next trip to the track will be with the monster Super Street 496 Stroker under the hood.  Anticipation!

These are pics from the first outing at the track

C's El Camino at the Team Chevelle drag race get together at Denton Texas, I-35 Raceway, May 20, 2006.  We ran a best of 9.0 @ 80 with zero traction in 102 degree Texas heat.  The round trip gas mileage average for the El Camino that day was 29 MPG.  I love the combination of Strokers and Overdrives.

The pictures below are from the now defunct Walters Drag Strip.  I took these pics when I was writing freelance for the Times Record News with "Reaction Time".
